Terms of use

The rules for using the CarVariables website, API, widgets and datasets. Last updated: 7 November 2026.

1. Who we are

CarVariables (carvariables.com, api.carvariables.com and cdn.carvariables.com) is run by Flentem B.V., Schoudermantel 37, 3981 AE Bunnik, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 67352391 ("we", "us").

These terms apply to everyone who uses the website, the API, the widgets or a dataset licence. By using them, or by creating an account, you accept these terms.

2. The catalog is ours

The catalog (the selection, structure and verification of makes, models, generations, variants, specifications and photos) is a database in which we have invested substantially. It is protected by the Dutch Database Act (Databankenwet) and, where applicable, by copyright.

Car makes, model names and logos are trademarks of their owners. We use them only to identify the cars.

3. Using the website

You may use the website freely to look up, compare and share cars.

Not allowed without our written permission: copying the catalog or a substantial part of it, in one go or bit by bit; automated collection of data or photos (scraping, crawling or bulk downloading), other than normal indexing by search engines and AI assistants that follow our robots.txt; building a database, dataset, API or service from our data; removing or changing watermarks, copyright notices or attribution; and getting around limits, such as rate limits, quotas or widget settings.

4. Accounts and API keys

Keep your account details correct and your password and API key secret. You are responsible for everything done with your API key. If a key leaks, create a new one in your account.

We may suspend an account or key that is used in breach of these terms or that harms the service for others. Where possible, we contact you first.

5. API plans and use of the data

What each plan includes (requests per month and per second, photos with or without watermark, support) is shown on the pricing page. On the Free plan the API stops at the monthly limit. Paid plans keep working above the limit; extra requests are charged at the rate on the pricing page.

Free plan: wherever you show our data, place a visible link to carvariables.com stating that the data comes from CarVariables. Paid plans may use the data commercially without attribution.

You may show the data in your own websites, apps and products, and keep copies of responses to make them faster. You may not resell or pass on the data as such, offer it through an API or dataset of your own, or build a copy of the catalog from responses.

6. Widgets

The car picker and the spec card may be placed on your own websites. Lookups in the car picker count as API requests of the account the widget belongs to; you control them in your account (websites, daily maximum, limit per visitor). Do not hide or change the attribution link a widget shows.

7. Dataset licences

A dataset licence is a one-time licence for your company to use the dataset in its own products, for any number of users, including 12 months of updates. You may not resell or redistribute the dataset itself, or offer it through a competing API. Without renewing updates you keep using your last version.

8. Prices and payment

Prices are in euros and include VAT. Payments are processed by Mollie. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel them. You can cancel at any time in your account; your plan then stays active until the end of the paid period. Paid periods are not refunded, unless the law says otherwise.

If a renewal cannot be charged, your account falls back to the Free plan after a short grace period.

9. Accuracy of the data

The catalog is compiled from manufacturer information and other public sources and checked as well as we can, but it can contain errors or gaps. Photos are representative illustrations of a model, not pictures of a specific vehicle. Do not rely on the data alone for safety-related, legal or financial decisions.

10. Availability and changes

We work to keep the service fast and available, but we cannot guarantee that it is always available or free of errors. We may improve and change the service. We announce changes that break existing API integrations at least 30 days in advance to customers with a paid plan.

11. Liability

Our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event that caused the damage, and we are not liable for indirect damage such as lost profit or lost data. This does not apply to damage caused by our intent or gross negligence.

12. Ending

You can stop using the service and close your account at any time. We may end or suspend access if these terms are seriously breached. The rules on using our data continue to apply to data you obtained before.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Important changes are announced on this page and, for customers with an account, by email at least 30 days before they take effect.

14. Law and disputes

Dutch law applies. Disputes are brought before the competent court in the district of Midden-Nederland, unless mandatory law gives a consumer the right to go to another court.

15. Contact
